St. John Commandery of Artin is a charming guest house that offers a unique experience of living amidst court, cellars, and a beautiful garden. Originally a hospital order of St. John of Jerusalem, this historic commandery was transformed into a farm after the Revolution. The barn, stables, and bread oven, all carved into the rock, still remain intact, adding to the rustic charm of the place.Our four guest rooms, named Aunis, Gamay, Jasnières, and Vouvray, pay homage to the surrounding vineyards and their rich heritage. Additionally, we have a spacious family room called Jasnières, which can accommodate up to five people. Situated in the old granary of the main farmhouse, this room boasts exposed beams and polished plaster, creating an elegant yet contemporary ambiance. For those who enjoy indulging in a relaxed morning, we highly recommend booking our Sunday morning brunch.
At St. John Commandery, we offer our guests the opportunity to dine with us for the "meal of the Commandery" by prior arrangement. During this delightful occasion, we create a friendly atmosphere to introduce you to our esteemed regional producers. To get to Artins from Paris, take the A11 Chartres/Le Mans highway. Exit at La Ferte Bernard and follow the D1 road towards Exeter. Continue on the D1, passing through Saint-Calais, Besse-sur-Braye, Sougé, and Artins.
