Description for B&B:

The Voltaire Bed and Breakfast is located in the charming medieval village of Airvault, nestled in the picturesque Poitou Charentes countryside. Run by Jo Cottrell, this 19th Century mansion offers a warm and relaxed welcome to its guests.

The Voltaire boasts 4 spacious double and twin bedrooms, each uniquely styled and furnished, and all equipped with en-suite bathrooms. Our main focus is to ensure that your stay with us is enjoyable and comfortable, whether it's for a night, a few days, a week, or longer. Guests often find themselves sleeping longer than expected, so we serve breakfast as late as 12pm to accommodate their needs.

Each guest bedroom features a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a bath and shower. We provide thick bath sheets, hand towels, and handmade soaps for your convenience. The bedrooms are furnished with either a kingsize bed or twin single beds, adorned with 100% cotton bed linen and soft Egyptian cotton duvet covers. The deep sprung mattresses offer optimal support and comfort. We can also provide an additional bed for a child under 12 upon request. All rooms have ample storage space for your belongings and comfortable easy chairs for relaxation.

Our bed and breakfast features a cozy library with an open fire, perfect for winter evenings, as well as a cooler styled sitting room that exudes tranquility. When the weather is pleasant, guests can enjoy the outdoor spaces. The walled garden at the back of the property offers a lovely spot to have breakfast on the lawn, benefiting from the morning sun. As the day progresses, the garden provides shade to keep you cool. The front area of the house features a raised swimming pool, ideal for sunbathing throughout the day.

For breakfast, we offer a continental spread that includes freshly baked croissants and baguettes, local honey from Airvault, homemade marmalade and preserves, fruit juice, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Upon request, we also provide evening meals consisting of 4 courses, accompanied by wine or soft drinks, and coffee. The menu varies depending on the season and availability of local ingredients. Picnics can also be arranged with prior notice.

Situated in an idyllic and unspoilt part of France, Airvault enjoys high annual sunshine levels, rivaling the Côte d'Azur. It is also located in the heart of the largest sunflower growing region in France. Despite its tranquil setting, the village offers a range of amenities within a short walk, including bakeries, butchers, restaurants, bars, banks with cash machines, a chemist, and a weekly market selling local produce.

Surrounded by historic towns, picturesque villages, stunning countryside, and swimming lakes, there are plenty of attractions to explore in the area. Nearby attractions include the Futuroscope virtual reality theme park, Vallée des Singes monkey park where you can interact with the monkeys, Puy du Fou medieval theme park with its spectacular shows, and La Venise Verte, the intricate waterway system of Marais Poitevins that can be explored by flat-bottomed boats. Additionally, being only 60 km south of the Loire Valley, there are numerous chateaux and vineyards to discover. For more information about the area, please visit our website.

We provide unlimited free WiFi access, and you can make real-time bookings online through our website.

Directions

GPS coordinates:

Latitude: 46° 49' 32" N
Longitude: 00° 08' 21" W

For those coming from the Poitiers direction, follow the D725 road into Airvault. Look for signs indicating Centre Ville. Pass by the Gendarmerie on your right, go downhill, and continue past the Church and Market Hall, also on the right. At the end of the road, you will reach a roundabout. Groupama will be on the right side of the roundabout, and we are directly across from them on the left side. The Hotel du Cygne is also located across from us. You will find recycling bins on the corner next to our garage. There is parking available in front of our house/garage, but if it is full, you can use the public car park diagonally opposite on the other side of the roundabout.

If you are coming from Parthenay, Bressuire, or Thouars, join the D725 road towards Airvault. Do not take the first turning that is signposted for Airvault Centre Ville, which has 4 flagpoles and the town's name in flowers at the junction. Instead, continue straight on the D725 road. You will pass the town's name and cross over a river. Shortly after crossing the river, you will encounter a sharp right-hand corner with a left turn. Take this turning onto D27 Rue de la Gare. Proceed over the level crossing and at the fork, keep left. This will lead you to a roundabout. The Hotel du Cygne will be on your right, a car park on your left, and on the third corner, you will find Groupama. We are located on the other corner.
