Description:

Description for B&B:

Until 1872, the location of this house was the site of the gardens belonging to the St. Laurent convent, a Benedictine community of women. Today, the area is occupied by the Residences of the Abbey apartments. The house is conveniently located a 5-minute walk away from the Bourges Cathedral.

During the revolution, the grounds were sold and a man named Alphonse-Joseph Charmeil, an art teacher at the Royal Middle School of Bourges and the founder of the Bourges Museum, built this unique house in the style of Napoleon III. He added a pavilion and two separate houses with marble decorations to the garden in 1878.

Originally, the marble decorations were part of the choir tour of the St. Pierre Le Marché church, which was built in 1760 and is now known as the Notre-Dame church. These original decorations are still intact and have been registered for preservation.
